Final Blog

Since this is the last week of class, thus being my last blog. I thought I would reflect on the class and the blog. To start this is the first blog I have ever made.... If you don't call twitter a blog. I seem them very similar the only major difference is that you  have an unlimited amount of words here versus twitter. The next thing I want to talk about of my blog is the name "the worm" when we first created the blog I was trying to decide of some name that seem to fit like an insider to sports, a name given to people who find out the little things and dig deeper. I tried to make sure that I looked at both sides of any argument and then state my reasoning to follow behind.
For the class, When I was looking during the summer to choose my English class I notice there was a Special Topics on sports; Immediately I knew that's what class I had to take. It would fit me so well, I really do not like to write but if I have to I want it to be something that I enjoy. I cant name anything I enjoy more then sports. I will be honest I choose to come here over other schools because of there sports.
It wasn't so simple in getting the class though, since we are in a computer class there is only 20 computers meaning they gave only 20 spots to fill. Since I started summer C and didn't have any credits coming into college I had to wait till the very end and of course it was filled. I signed up for special topics hunger games and O my I am glad I got into this class instead. The girl to guy ratio was nice but that's about the only thing I could enjoy from that class.
I loved having this class, not only being able to write about sports but having this class just to talk sports and be around people with similar interest as me. My dad and my best friends are usually the people I spend most of the time talking about sports. None of them are around here the closest is in Gainesville, so to have other people that love sports as much as I do was amazing!

Controversy for the Spurs Heat?

Heat won, thank the basketball gods for that one and the sweet stroke of Ray Allen to give a clutch shot. But really Miami no Tony Parker No Danny Green, no Tim Duncan no Manu Ginobili. That's like the heat with out the big 3 and Allen. Why was the game close?? They will have to watch some video on that game for sure. The reason I brought this us is because David Stern came out and said they will have "substantial sanctions will be forthcoming" why do they have to be punished for that? They are old players and want to last for the whole season had a long hard road trip that still has Memphis coming up. I understand it is a business and people paid to see them but you wont see them for long and the season will suffer if they are out for longer then a one game rest here and there.

Fantasy football finale

NFL football has now hit week 13, for fantasy players this may be the biggest week of the season. A win here and a loss to someone else may be the difference between you getting in the playoffs or sitting back in the losers watching the top teams brawl for champion. The weeks have gotten harder and harder, waiver wire claims are getting slim picking. Hopefully you are in playoff contention and understand the same pain I do. With such few players that are worthy picking up, since you are at the top ranks in the league you get the left over’s... if there is any.

 

                Not too long ago I remember holding first place with no way seeing anyone was going to catch me. Then the dreaded injuries kicked in. Demarco Murray gets injured and counting on six weeks now riding the bench with possible one or two more before he plays. I decide I need to do something drastic to keep me ahead. I trade Jordy Nelson for Chris Johnson, at the time Cj was averaging 6 points per game and Nelson put up about 9. I needed a running back and I had potential on my side. The trade was accepted. Though since Thursday games started we had to wait a week before we each had our new player and Jordy put up career stats with 121 yard and 3TDs for fantasy points! I began to second guess my trade but there was no going back and luckily Jody hasn’t  done anything like that while CJ woke up and is playing like he is suppose to. That wasn’t the end, Ray Lewis went down and there goes the Raven D fence. Now I just lost DeSean Jackson leaving me with very few options to choose for players to start and this being a must win week in order to make the playoffs.

Thanksgiving sports story

Besides the great football  games going on all day, I would put last years thanksgiving under my best memory. All of my friends decided early in the morning, late afternoon we went to play some football. Now I cant remember how well I played but I can recall the great times I had with all of them and most of them are life long friends. We joke now about how our kids will know each other and play sports together. Then of course after a couple hours of football you come with a big appetite for some turkey dinner.

Thanksgiving memory/story

I cant say I have a thanksgiving memory that goes down as exciting or amazing, but what I can say is that I would have to say this years thanksgiving was the most fond one of all I can recall. I of course enjoyed football all day with the family as I always do. But what I enjoyed most was being with my family, of course everyone says that's what you should be enjoying every year and be thankful for but this was different. I think it has to go into that fact that I am matured enough realize how privileged I have been with my family and also the fact that I do not spend every day in the same house hold as them. I am done, I have moved out not complexly but seeing them for one week in a whole semester is a lot different then sleeping under the same roof as my family for 17 and a half years. I really appreciated spending time with my family and cant wait to see them again for winter break.

Tiger and the Scandal

2 iphones, dozens of mistresses, a broken mailbox and a banged up car. The result of Tiger woods cheating on his wife and being caught. Gatorade cut him, Nike cut him. Every minute of every hour of ESPN made sure that it was known that Tiger had cheated. That leaves us with, why do we care? We shouldnt Tiger Woods isnt payed millions of dollars a year, isnt payed to have his face on a gatorade bottle with his own special flavors and to be dressed head to toe in Nike apparell because he is a good husband. We shouldnt care, he is one of the best golfers ever to play on  the planet. Lastly you could argue that he is a role model to kids who want to play golf. Well they should be looking up to how he plays golf and thats it!

Is it time for a move in the SEC?

The SEC may have lost the national championship this year and off the top of my head have had 7 of the last 8 National Championship teams. Yet they still are this year’s power house holding the BCS 4, 5, 6,7,8,9 ranked spots. Not to mention the only lost defending national champions Alabama has this year and will probably only have is to the now number 9 Texas A&M. Looking at the losses these teams have they only lost to teams from the SEC so they are knocking one another out of the Championship hope, While other Conferences are only holding one or two spots in the top 20 every year.  If the SEC teams split apart and would not have to cancel on another out they would be holding the 1, 2 3, 6 and 7 spots.

Poltics in sports

For my Ad buster I am mentioning Lebron being looked as a traitor to the city of Cleveland. How the Governor and the Mayor came out and agreed with the fans as he betrayed the city and the state of Ohio for leaving. This made the two political leaders look more like a normal citizen and the citizen see that they are feeling the same pain and distrust that has just happen to them. Thus these two political leaders gain a lot of popularity and may lead to major reason to there reelection.

Ad buster idea

For my ad buster ideas I am looking at taking the new nike commercial with fast is faster and placing pain is worse in red at the bottom. I am doing this because it is great that nike wants to encourage speed and explosion into the nfl. The fans love it creating a lot more revenue to the already grossing nfl. The high intense collisions with players smacking down on ever play only amps the injury prone of each one. Yes it does look cool and aws to the eyes, but at what cost?

The higher intensity that nike is trying to put out is only going to cause even more and horrific injuries. You may contemplate why would the nfl players want to do what an ad says and go faster and stronger? Well when you are the running back or wide receiver of a team and start gaining some popularity a nice check in the mail for being sponsored from nike because you are one of the most explosive players in the league doesn't sound to shabby. Pain is worse as concussion come in to play as players are "flying" into one another to have more explosion and speed.

By far a really dumb commercial, Phelps swimming in the pool and looks like a Mommas boy. She has lunch for him and that eating subway will make you all healthy and fit as Phelps. You telling me that if I eat subway everyday I will be able to be as good as him. 

A very well made sports commercial

Duracell makes a lot of great commercials, this one with Patrick Willis is no exception. The commercial shows a timeline of success to being one of the top line backers in the NFL. The background music along with his words are inspiring to not just someone who plays a sports but can be used to anyone in life. Watching the whole commercial you would have no clue it is made for a Battery till the end. It doesn't need to over exceed its show just a simple battery next to the NFL logo and the title to the commercial Trust your power plays perfectly to what was just shown and a battery.

Explosion

As a warm feeling starts to undertake my back, its snaps me awake to catch my dog peeing on the bed. Once I recognized that she as doing that I screamed "Roco you stupid dog!" Immediately he stopped peeing and jumped off the bed scared with his tail in between his legs. The warm yellow liquid was moving in my direction and I jumped out of bed like a cat. Checking the time I was running behind and I had to decide if I take a shower and shave or do I clean the bed. I decided to shower and shave before work, the mess will be there when I get back. Once I got out and began to look for clothes to wear I was troubled when the only Clean shirt was a horizontal red white and blue American flag dress shirt. I had no choice but to throw it on, then I went searing for some dress pants and the first pair of black sock I could find. Looking like modern day uncle Sam I got in the car and headed to work. Once I arrived I pulled up to the security gate to show the guard my ID; once my window went down he caught a glimpse of my shirt he remarked with a sly salute and I played back with a quick salute back. He gave me my ID and opened up the barrier. Once parked I headed to the building and got to my desk. A yellow stick note said Alex see me in my office -Mary. I took the sticky and headed right to it; I got to the door gave a polite knock immediately she responded with a "come in". I turn the corner and there was a lady of about 65. Some grey hair around, probably mostly from her husband. She had on the usual business dress suit a women of her power wears. When she looked up from the computer screen she laughed and told me she liked my shirt. I replied with a nice smile and said thank you. She smiled back and said "son your going to have to be let go". I just got fired by my mother...

Glory Road

this movies is about a coach who is promoted to D1 coach for Texas Western. being a football school basketball was out behind. Since it was a small school they didn't have the money to be recruiting players. The head Coach makes a bold moves in bringing in 7 black basketball players. Staring 5 black people for th enational championship is unheard of.
This became bigger then a game, this became a race war unleashed. Texas Western had to win this game to show to America that the black people were no longer down. That black people can complete with the white folks.
So many themes are placed in this movie.

Armageddon

My favorite film is Armageddon; the movie is about a bunch of average Joes trained as much astronaut training as they could be in the very little time they had before they had to take a trip to land on an asteroid to send a nuclear warhead in the middle of the asteroid splitting it into two and go around the Earth and save everyone's life. 

The movie has so much of what everyone wants the young love wanting to be together, but the pretty girls father will not allow it.

People lives are left in to die.

The world becomes united 

Right as it seems its all over, success and they do it but not so fast the president has other ideas and almost ends it. They triumph once again and find a way but there is a flaw that has occurred someone has to stay behind. 

Pick of straws and the the unlucky one is going to stay.

The rest arrive home as hero's to the world,

Trigger

The pounding of metal getting pounded shoes unloading a powerful force on  the bleachers, like a squadron from the army. The hot sun reflecting off the metal benches, gave the feeling like I am I in an oven. Making it to the top gave you the swag that you just climbed mount Everest. Then the second pause you took your teammate catches up and gives you a friendly nudge saying "come on man keep moving before coach see, I don't want to be doing any more of this shit" simultaneously I made a hard left towards the opposite side of the rails seeing my fellow teammates heading up as I started to head down. Some looked ready to fall on the ground others just keep forcing there body to keep lifting each foot to the next step.Comes to my head every time I play basketball; doesn't matter if its pickup or organized the hard work that left me unable to walk up the staircase to class the next day. When I feel tired on the court I tell my mind toughen the FUCK UP! The level I was pushed too, with dehydration ready to kick in anytime of practice. I knew I have been through worst my body was capable of getting through this game the next one and so forth, my friends laying down after each game resting chugging there bottles of water of Gatorade. I stood tall wouldn't touch any water till I won and deserved that water. Sometimes I had black flashes I just shut my eyes for a second and forced me through them. I wasn't ready to reach my limit, my mind was giving up, my body was too. Something in side me kept me moving like a robot. Up the court and back down; I wasn't just running aimlessly I kept up the hustle dived for ball kept my hands up trying to tip a pass. Sometimes I enter this "zone" where I lose feeling in my legs, I could just keep running and nothing slowing me down my fatigue disappeared. It was very similar to blacking out after having to much to drink, I knew I was at this state but if you asked me the next day what I did I couldn't tell you a damn thing.

Laker or Celtic?

Wow what a start up! I feel like I am at the football practice, I may have never played high school football, but just reading the first page I have the image and thoughts like I was actually there. I played basketball in high school and I can relate to the start of the second page lung on fire cotton mouth. What a vivid picture the pale girl who just made love. The descriptiveness is great examples of what needs to be put in my paper.

I wish I could of seen the golden age of basketball with Worthy Magic Jordan even Shaq in the prime, that would of been something, My dad tells me he took me to a Heat vs. Bulls game of course it was after the come around of baseball lockout I believe in 1998 or so I was probably around 5. So I don't remember a thing.
What I don't like how the two sides Lakers and Celtics refers to democrats and republicans it is a game I don't want to hear anything about politics. Yet what scares me is people do think the way of the ten questions.
Then again I wasn't there if race was really looked at as Lakers vs Celtics wow. The culture really is so different each there own way of style which creates different attitudes. The article is written in a bias manner when I read it I see the idea that Lakers are young and fun and Celtics are old and boring.

Unfortunately I have to with drawl back on this post, due to the fact I am blogging for my college English class and he is also a die hard Bama fan. I bet right now you feel great top of the world 2 National Championships in three years and your team is ranked no. 1 once again. But I wont let you think all is well, See I am a Miami Dolphin Fan and I am sure that is not heard of very much thanks to you. Look at what you left them with, do you see what the players you passed on and who you took. Have some balls you sack Drew Brees Drew Brees!! Im done I don't want to say anymore!

Life without sports

Can you imagine what life would be like without sport? How would a male keep up a conversation with a man that he just met? What would we talk about sewing? Women weren't that big of sports as they have become, maybe we should as them for some advice of what we could talk about. At rush week talking to members of the Fraternity we go the usually intro hey how are you etc. then we asked where we are from and major. But after that sports played a pivotal role in the conversation, sure I mean we could talk politics and how the weather is but what enjoyment is that. Thank all the blessed humans that can preform that art so well.

3 on 5 what a way to to introduced into the world of sports, just reading that article I will remember that event for a life time. The Poem explains so much in such simple short amount of a Friday night high school football game with the parents watching.
These memories are embedded in their minds for a lifetime, just as the first sporting event is in mine. The nostalgia is so vital to these pieces recalling the detail of the basketball game to such detail even though it was so long ago.
I cant believe that the basketball story is not even heard of, It is understandable with the place and time of the event and who was playing but after what happen and winning the next game too I fell like they should of got more credit then they did.
Sports can be brought to whole different limits, you could look at that article as even though it looked impossible from the start and when it was unfathomable to think when they lost there best player and then another. Life goes the same way it looks impossible and it cant even be done not a chance but you have the spirit and the heart to make it happen and it will. Its called an upset for a reason right?

Death Strikes Again!

This may be getting out of hand, last year was the baseball incident. then a few days ago another man was killed at a preseason game. That is not all! We have another man to add to the death toll. Now a college game, what is going on???

Raise the rails

Last night another man fell at sporting event this time in Houston, at the Texans preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings. Why are the fans now at risk at a game? The league has put so many new rules in place to protect the players. Does he need to implement rules on the fans as well? This type of event is becoming far to common in the last few years. Are little children going to stop coming because there parents fear that they may get injured/killed? If that happens the process of the next generation falling in love with sports will be broken.

My first sporting event

My father tells me how I never remember anything, how we went to over the country; we saw the Grand Canyon, visited San Francisco, California, Seattle  and attended my first baseball game at Kingdome, Safeco Field home of the Mariners it was bat day. I had been playing T-ball and just started coach pitch. When I was given a wooden bat with the MLB logo engraved at the top and the Mariners’ logo close by. I asked my dad why the bat wasn’t metal like what I have always played with. He told me that only the pros use the wood bats. I accepted what he told me and we continued walking towards the ramp to head to our seats. So many people were bunched up trying to find what section they were in.

Once we found our location we walked in and the bright sun caught my eyes when I reached the tunnels end. The man asked for our tickets and directed us to our two seats. We sat down and from the upper deck we saw everything, the giant outfield that seemed way too large for anyone to hit the wall. The players looked like ants as they tossed a white dot back and forth. Once the game began the rain began to fall, as I was about to ask my dad if we should get under he tapped me and said watch this. A low grown and then the ceiling was moving! I stared as everyone took a quick glance at the roof closing I was in awe till the roof finally shut at the other end.
